Yesterday I had a rant about the principles behind Mega-star Taylor Swift’s stand against the corporate might of Apple Inc. Today she won a significant battle for small artists – and I couldn’t be happier! Talk about a sweet outcome for Apple and the artists.

Sweet Red AppleIt takes a lot of power to move a behemoth the size of Apple and the canny Taylor Swift has done so! Apple changed their stance to appease customer complaints about the automatic loading of U2 when the new version of iTunes launched earlier this year. Apple’s brand is so valuable that it seems they are now prepared to take a risk on their short-term competitive advantage to maintain the integrity of the brand.

This means that even the least-known musicians can expect to be paid – if not fairly, at least a little – for Apple’s use of their music while establishing their streaming paid service.
